The taxi company funded the trip for the group of 18 to 80 year olds who are supported by a nationwide provider of services for people with diverse and often complex needs, Lifeways.

Caroline Brzezinski, Service Manager of Lifeways, has commented: “Weston-Super-Mare will be a great day out, it is accessible for people with disabilities, it’s nice and flat for those in wheelchairs and they have been brilliant because they have given us lots of concessions. Everyone has been really excited about it.”

One of the taxi drivers, Mark Bicknell, whose sister is supported by Lifeways, said he was happy to help, and was eager to give the group of adults a lovely break.

Mr Bicknell was quoted saying: “We just wanted to give them all a day out, it’s a change of scenery, a new experience and it is quite stimulating in a lot of ways, and I know my sister has been really looking forward to it.”

In order to transport the group down to Weston-Super-Mare, the taxi company had to take one mini bus, a fleet of nine cars, and a bus, which were all donated by Swindon Car and Van Hire, and all of which would have to be covered by the relevant insurance policies, including taxi insurance of course.

This proved to be a successful day out as the group, along with their carers played football, visited the Ferris wheel, and general had a lovely break away from things.

Furthermore, Sat Nijjar, owner of Cross Street Radio Cars, has said: “We want to be a bit different to other taxi firms. Most are in it just for the money, but that’s not what we are about. A lot of this is about trust – these people are putting a lot of trust in us. We are definitely going to make this an annual event now.”

The taxi firm must be commended for their charitable nature, and we hope the plea to make it an annual event comes to fruition.
